Susannah J. Ural, a noted Civil War-era history professor and researcher, is Mississippi State’s inaugural Frank and Virginia Williams Endowed Chair of Abraham Lincoln and Civil War Studies.

Just in time for Women’s History Month, Mississippi State’s Theatre MSU partners next week with Starkville Community Theatre for a special production of “The Belle of Amherst,” a William Luce production highlighting the life of acclaimed poet Emily Dickinson. Best-selling author Kali Fajardo-Anstine, winner of the American Book award, visits Mississippi State this month as writer-in-residence, an annual program hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Institute for the Humanities and the Department of English. The program is financially assisted by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Mississippi Humanities Council.

A new National Endowment for the Humanities grant is aiding four Mississippi State anthropology and archaeology faculty in the development of a hands-on, research field school for students to help preserve a historic Black cemetery in Starkville.
