STARKVILLE, Miss.—Lady R. Cox, a 1998 graduate of Mississippi State University, now is part of a collaborative book project helping parents prepare students for all aspects of college life.

Cox, an associate vice president for student affairs at Auburn University, co-authored the publication—“College Ready 2021: Expert Advice for Parents to Simplify the College Transition”—a Wise Action publishing company publication released on June 4. The book is available for purchase on Amazon. Additional details are available at https://collegeready.guide.

“This year, more than ever, parents have questions about sending their students to college,” said Cox, who worked in conjunction with 13 other family relations professionals from major universities around the country. “‘College Ready 2021’ provides practical guidance on what should be done during the summer, at drop-off, and throughout the first semester.”

Each chapter addresses a specific concern and is written by a university official who works with parents to enhance student success at the collegiate level.

Cox wrote the chapter focused on helping students stay mentally and physically healthy in college.

“Mental health is a top concern of college parents, so this chapter provides guidance on how parents can support their students,” added Cox. “Plus, ‘College Ready 2021’ is full of ideas on how to start those tough but essential conversations before drop-off.”

Cox graduated from MSU with a bachelor’s degree in communication. She later worked at MSU and was part of the team to create the Office of Parent and Family Services in 2007. She received her master’s degree from Auburn University followed by a doctorate in higher education from the University of Georgia.
