Student Profile: Ashley Thompson
College of Arts and Sciences ambassador and senior microbiology major from Clinton, MS, Ashley Thompson, knew MSU’s “friendly campus” was where she belonged after she took her first tour of the university.
“The campus itself was beautiful and everyone I encountered on my tour was so friendly and helpful,” said Thompson, whose academic success at MSU has earned her a spot on the university’s President’s and Dean’s Scholars list.
Thompson is the vice president of MSU's Chapter of the American Society for Microbiology. She wants to attend medical school after she completes her undergraduate education.
“I’ve always been one to enjoy learning about how the things we can’t see with the naked eye affect us in huge ways, such as how an imbalance in certain neurotransmitters can result in psychological disorders, so microbiology has turned out to be the perfect major for me,” said Thompson.
Along with her major in microbiology, Thompson is earning a minor in psychology to add depth to her education.
A member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society, Thompson loves to cook and read when she is not volunteering at a local charity. One of her favorite aspects of student life at MSU is seeing her peers become more excited about the organizations in which they are involved.
Thompson’s advice to freshman is to “look at the course curriculum for the major you’ve chosen just to make sure that’s what you want to do.”
